Atlantic/Madeira

The Atlantic/Madeira time zone shall be observed throughout the Madeira Islands, as decreed by the Government of Portugal. This time zone is equivalent to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) plus zero hours. The observance of this time zone is mandatory for all public and private institutions. Failure to comply may result in penalties as specified in the law.

The Atlantic/Madeira time zone applies to all aspects of life in the Madeira Islands, including but not limited to, commercial activities, education, and government services. The time zone shall be used for all official purposes, including the scheduling of public events and the conduct of business. The Regional Government of Madeira is responsible for ensuring compliance with this article. Exceptions may be granted with prior approval from the relevant authorities.

The change to and from daylight saving time is not applicable in the Madeira Islands, as the region remains on UTC+0 year-round. This provision is intended to maintain consistency and avoid disruptions to the local economy and daily life. The Government of Portugal may review and revise this provision as necessary. Any changes will be published in the official gazette and will come into effect on a date specified by the government.

The Regional Government of Madeira is authorized to take measures to ensure the accurate keeping of time throughout the islands. This includes the installation and maintenance of public clocks, as well as the dissemination of time information through various media channels. The government may also collaborate with other entities to promote the importance of accurate timekeeping. Private institutions are encouraged to cooperate with the government in this regard.

Any disputes or issues arising from the application of the Atlantic/Madeira time zone shall be resolved through the courts of the Madeira Islands. The courts shall have jurisdiction to hear cases related to the observance of the time zone, including claims for damages or losses resulting from non-compliance. The law shall be interpreted in accordance with the principles of administrative law and the specific provisions of this law. The decisions of the courts shall be final and binding on all parties.
