Assembly of the Republic

The Assembly of the Republic shall be composed of 230 members, elected by universal suffrage, for a term of five years. The members shall represent the Portuguese people and shall be elected through a proportional representation system. The Assembly shall be the sole legislative body in Portugal, with the power to create and amend laws. The members shall take an oath to uphold the Constitution and serve the interests of the Portuguese people.

The Assembly of the Republic shall have the power to approve the government's budget and hold the government accountable for its actions. The Assembly shall also have the power to conduct investigations and hold hearings to ensure that the government is acting in the best interests of the Portuguese people. The Assembly shall be able to pass laws and resolutions, which shall be binding on the government. The Assembly shall also have the power to amend the Constitution, with the approval of the majority of its members.

The Assembly of the Republic shall be presided over by a President, who shall be elected by the members of the Assembly. The President shall be responsible for ensuring that the Assembly's rules and procedures are followed, and shall have the power to call the Assembly into session and to adjourn it. The President shall also have the power to appoint committees and to refer matters to them for consideration. The President shall be assisted by a Bureau, which shall be composed of vice-presidents and secretaries.

The Assembly of the Republic shall meet in regular session at least twice a year, and may meet in extraordinary session at the request of the government or of a majority of its members. The Assembly shall have the power to consider and debate any matter that is of public interest, and shall have the power to pass laws and resolutions on any subject. The Assembly shall also have the power to conduct investigations and hold hearings, and shall have the power to summon witnesses and to require the production of documents.

The Assembly of the Republic shall be responsible for ensuring that the government is accountable to the people, and shall have the power to hold the government responsible for its actions. The Assembly shall have the power to pass a vote of no confidence in the government, which shall require the government to resign. The Assembly shall also have the power to impeach the President of the Republic, and shall have the power to try and punish the President for any crimes or misdemeanors committed while in office.
