accession of Denmark to the European Economic Community

The Kingdom of Denmark hereby accedes to the European Economic Community, and shall be bound by the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community, as amended. The provisions of this Treaty shall apply to Denmark, subject to the terms and conditions set out in this Act of Accession. The Danish Government shall take all necessary measures to ensure the implementation of this Treaty in Denmark. The accession of Denmark shall not affect the rights and obligations of the existing Member States.

The Danish Government shall deposit an instrument of accession with the Government of the Italian Republic, which shall be the depository of this Act of Accession. The instrument of accession shall be deposited within sixty days of the signing of this Act. The accession of Denmark shall take effect on the first day of the month following the deposit of the instrument of accession. The Danish Government shall notify the other Member States of the deposit of the instrument of accession.

The provisions of this Act of Accession shall apply to the entire territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, including the Faroe Islands and Greenland. However, the provisions of this Act shall not apply to the Faroe Islands and Greenland insofar as they are not compatible with the special arrangements applicable to these territories. The Danish Government shall consult with the authorities of the Faroe Islands and Greenland before taking any measures to implement this Act in these territories.

The Danish Government shall take all necessary measures to ensure the implementation of the common policies of the European Economic Community, including the common agricultural policy, the common commercial policy, and the common transport policy. The Danish Government shall also take all necessary measures to ensure the implementation of the rules on competition, taxation, and approximation of laws. The Danish Government shall cooperate with the Commission of the European Economic Community to ensure the effective implementation of these policies and rules.

The accession of Denmark to the European Economic Community shall not affect the rights and obligations of Denmark arising from international agreements to which it is a party. The Danish Government shall take all necessary measures to ensure that its international agreements are compatible with the provisions of this Act of Accession. The Danish Government shall notify the other Member States and the Commission of the European Economic Community of any international agreements that may be affected by its accession to the community.
