ISO 3166-2:UA

The ISO 3166-2:UA standard shall be used for the coding of geographic names in Ukraine, including the 24 administrative regions, 2 autonomous republics, and the cities of Kyiv and Sevastopol. The standard shall be applied by all government agencies and institutions for the purpose of administrative division and geographic identification. The use of this standard is mandatory for all official documents and records. The standard shall be updated periodically to reflect any changes in the administrative division of Ukraine.

The 24 administrative regions of Ukraine, as defined by the ISO 3166-2:UA standard, shall be the primary units of administrative division for the country. Each region shall have its own administrative center and shall be responsible for the governance of its respective territory. The regions shall be further divided into districts and municipalities, which shall have their own powers and responsibilities. The administrative division of Ukraine shall be based on the principles of decentralization and local self-government.

The 2 autonomous republics of Crimea and Sevastopol shall have a special status within the administrative division of Ukraine. These republics shall have their own powers and responsibilities, as defined by the Constitution of Ukraine and the laws of the country. The autonomous republics shall be responsible for the governance of their respective territories and shall have the right to self-government. The relationship between the autonomous republics and the central government of Ukraine shall be based on the principles of mutual respect and cooperation.

The city of Kyiv, as the capital of Ukraine, shall have a special status within the administrative division of the country. The city shall be governed by a municipal council and a mayor, who shall be elected by the citizens of Kyiv. The city shall have its own powers and responsibilities, as defined by the laws of Ukraine, and shall be responsible for the provision of municipal services to its citizens. The city of Kyiv shall be a separate administrative unit, distinct from the surrounding region.

The ISO 3166-2:UA standard shall be used for the purpose of statistical analysis and data collection in Ukraine. The standard shall be applied by all government agencies and institutions for the purpose of collecting and analyzing data on the administrative regions, autonomous republics, and cities of Ukraine. The use of this standard shall ensure consistency and accuracy in the collection and analysis of data, and shall facilitate the comparison of data between different regions and cities. The standard shall be updated periodically to reflect any changes in the administrative division of Ukraine.
