Svalbard Treaty

The Svalbard Treaty is an international agreement that grants Norway sovereignty over the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, allowing it to govern the territory while also providing for the rights of other signatory countries to engage in economic activities and settle on the island. The treaty was signed in 1920 and currently has 50 signatory countries. It aims to promote peace and cooperation in the region.
