Syria–United States relations

The Syria-US relations are a complex and often strained bilateral relationship between the two countries, with tensions rising due to Syria's involvement in the Syrian Civil War and its close ties with Iran. The US has imposed economic sanctions on Syria and has been critical of the Syrian government's human rights record and actions in the conflict. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were suspended in 2011.
