France–Syria relations

France and Syria have historically had complex and often strained relations, with periods of diplomatic engagement and cooperation punctuated by tensions and disagreements, particularly since the Syrian Civil War began in 2011. France has been a vocal critic of the Syrian government's human rights record and has supported international efforts to bring about a peaceful resolution to the conflict. France has also imposed economic sanctions on Syria in response to the government's actions.
