Osmanya

The Osmanya script is a writing system used for the Somali language, created in 1920 by Osman Yusuf Kenadid. It is an abugida script, consisting of 36 letters, and was designed to be a more phonetic representation of the Somali language. The Osmanya script was used for writing Somali until the 1970s, when it was largely replaced by the Latin-based Somali alphabet.
