Sri Lankan Constitution of 1972

The Sri Lankan Constitution of 1972 established Sri Lanka as a republic, with a presidential system of government, and enshrined the principles of socialism and Buddhism as the state religion. It also provided for a unicameral parliament and a strong executive presidency. The constitution was amended several times before being replaced by the current constitution in 1978.
