Modern history of Iraq

Iraq gained independence from British colonial rule in 1932, but the country's early 20th-century history was marked by periods of instability and foreign influence. The 1958 revolution led by Abd al-Karim Qasim overthrew the monarchy, and subsequent coups and power struggles shaped the country's trajectory. Saddam Hussein's rise to power in 1979 marked a significant turning point, leading to decades of authoritarian rule and conflict.
