The Bangwibyeong law in South Korea was a conscription system that existed from 1969 to 1994, requiring able-bodied men to serve in the military for a set period. This mandatory military service was a key component of South Korea's national defense strategy during that time. The law applied to all male citizens, with some exceptions for health or other reasons.
