France–Romania relations

Romania and France have a long-standing bilateral relationship, with diplomatic ties established in 1859. The two countries cooperate in areas such as trade, defense, and culture, with France being one of Romania's main economic partners in the European Union. Romania and France also share a strong historical and cultural connection, with many Romanian artists and intellectuals having studied or lived in France.
