Third Amendment of the Constitution of Ireland

The Third Amendment to the Constitution of Ireland allows the state to join the European Communities, now known as the European Union, by removing the requirement for a constitutional referendum to ratify such membership. This amendment was made in 1972 to facilitate Ireland's entry into the EU. It effectively removed the need for a constitutional change to join the EU.
