Sunningdale Agreement

The Sunningdale Agreement was a 1973 deal between the UK and Irish governments to establish power-sharing in Northern Ireland, aiming to end sectarian violence and promote cooperation between unionists and nationalists. This agreement created a power-sharing executive in Northern Ireland and established the Council of Ireland, a joint body between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. However, the agreement ultimately collapsed due to opposition from loyalist paramilitaries and some unionist politicians.
