Gadsden Purchase

The Gadsden Purchase is a treaty between the United States and Mexico where the US acquired approximately 30,000 square miles of land in present-day southern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico for $10 million. This land deal was finalized in 1853 and expanded US territory. The purchase was named after James Gadsden, the US Ambassador to Mexico who negotiated the agreement.
