Inger Andersen, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, has warned that glacier melt and rising sea levels will persist due to years of delayed action on climate change. Speaking recently, she emphasized that the world is now facing the consequences of what she termed โ€œcarbon procrastination.โ€ The critical question is no longer whether global temperatures will exceed the 1.5ยฐC threshold but rather how much they will exceed it, for how long, and the impact this will have on vulnerable communities and ecosystems.

Andersenโ€™s remarks come at a time when climate change effects are becoming increasingly visible and severe. The urgency for action is underscored by a series of extreme weather events and rising temperatures around the globe.
