Cuba's foreign relations are primarily driven by its socialist ideology and close ties with countries in the Latin American and Caribbean regions, particularly with Venezuela and other members of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA). Cuba also maintains diplomatic relations with countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia, and has sought to strengthen its ties with emerging economies in the Global South. The country's relations with the United States have been strained since the 1959 revolution, with a partial thaw in relations following the 2014 normalization of diplomatic ties.
