Katie Boulter, the British number one, suffered a staggering defeat in the second round of the US Open, winning just one game against Karolina Muchova. The match, held on Wednesday at the Louis Armstrong Stadium, lasted only 58 minutes, with the Czech seventh seed overpowering Boulter with a score of 6-1, 6-0. The contest was moved to the main stadium due to heavy rain, but the change of venue did little to help Boulter’s performance.

Boulter described the match as a "bad day at the office," attributing her loss to struggles with the conditions and distractions from the stadium's environment. She acknowledged feeling uncomfortable, saying, "I let it get to me," and emphasized the need to manage these external factors better in the future. This defeat marks a continued trend of disappointing results for Boulter, who has only secured two wins across four Grand Slam tournaments this season.

The match statistics revealed a stark contrast between the players. Boulter hit eight double faults and failed to score any aces, winning just 33% of her first serve points. In contrast, Muchova showcased a strong performance, with 14 winners and only nine unforced errors. Former world number five Daniela Hantuchova suggested Boulter needs to reassess her game strategy, particularly her serve, and emphasized the importance of practice to regain rhythm and confidence.

While Boulter's summer included personal joy, having married Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur, her professional journey has been rocky. Following her first-round exit at Wimbledon, she has only won two out of the six matches she has played since then. As Boulter reflects on this challenging period, it remains to be seen how she will regroup and respond in future tournaments.
